Testimony by' witnessess' at post-war trials presented figures between 1.5 and 4.2 million inmates 'murdered' by 'gassing' and other means at Auschwitz between 1941 and October 1944.

The "Auschwitz Death Books" recently released from Moscow archives , contained meticulous records of each death at the Auschwitz detention and work camps, including the name, age, cause, and date of 69,000 inmate deaths between Feb 1941 and December 1943, an average of 2,000 per month (65 per day). The 1944 books have not yet been released, but the projections based on the distribution from 1941 to 1943 produces an estimate of 90.000 deaths from typhus, other diseases, old age, natural causes, and a relatively small number of executions.
