Sunday afternoon concert in Auschwitz I. Photo probably taken in 1943, but after September 1942 as the second wire-fence row was not added until that time. Looking towards the entrance gate and road. On left is a watchtower. The conductor was probably the Polish inmate Francis Nierychlo.

Although this violinist is at Westerbork camp in Holland, scenes like this constantly occurred at Auschwitz I and at Birkenau where thousands of women and children were housed, and where different orchestras and bands continually performed for the inmates.
